The Village of Takoma Park is delighted to host a new program called Four Seasons of Creativity for Elders.
Your creative imagination is a terrific source of fresh energy, perfectly matched to the “work” of growing older. You are a natural story maker and we invite you to “connect the dots” of your life. Join a like-minded group to share and describe the experiences that have led us all to become the people we are today. It’s a chance to be playful through map making, to find joy in reflection making memory boxes, to experience peace in the winnowing of our memories and to discover the freedom to contemplate the existential in a supportive atmosphere through mask making.
Join us on Wednesday, March 12, for the first workshop of a six-week session.
This six-week session is the first of a four-part series (labeled "Seasons 1,2 3, and 4) directed by David Oldfield, director of the Farther On project. He promises to make each workshop session a special occasion through the use of creative tools in a safe atmosphere.
Each season we will engage our creative imaginations using a different form of creative expression.
▪Season 1: In 6 weekly meetings from March 12 – April 16, we will draw maps of our lives.
Seasons 2-4 (dates and registration information to be announced):
▪Season 2: we will craft legacy boxes to hold our most precious memories and keepsakes;
▪Season 3: we will winnow our memories through journaling and storytelling to find the special ones that shaped our characters and personalities; and
▪Season 4: we will make and paint life masks.
The workshops are free; all materials will be provided. No talent is required. All we need from you is a willingness to say “YES!” to a new experience, and a desire to explore your life in creative ways. Sign up now as space is limited to 8 participants.
Membership in the Village of Takoma Park is not required.
Snacks will be provided.
Parking is available in a lot and on the street.
