Reimagining Public Safety in Montgomery County

The tragic killing of George Floyd and others brought renewed and intensified awareness of the tensions between law enforcement agencies and communities of color. Nationwide and in Montgomery County, incidents involving police use of force have focused attention on racial injustices, as well as the structure and funding of police.

In response to the nationwide and local furor over racial justice, County Executive Marc Elrich established The Reimagining Public Safety Taskforce in mid-year 2020, which included broad representation of community stakeholders.  Their final report was released in February.

Join Marc Mauer, former Executive Director of the Sentencing Project and one of the two Taskforce Co-Chairpersons, for an overview of their process, findings, and recommendations, with time for questions and discussion.
Mr. Mauer is one of the country's leading experts on sentencing policy and race and the criminal justice system.
