THE CRITICAL ROLE OF NUTRITION IN HEALTH - Learn About Plant-Based Diets (January 2022)

Virtual presentation by Dr. Neal Barnard, widely known and respected physician, researcher, and health educator. He opened with a brief review of research demonstrating the many benefits of plant-based diets for a wide variety of aspects of our health: cardiac, neurological, hormonal, weight management, and beyond. Vegan diets, he explained, are simply based on eliminating animal-based foods and focusing on the broad variety of fruits, grains, vegetables, and legumes available. For those interested in trying a vegan diet, he suggested a two-step approach: seven days to think about and list plant-based foods you like, followed by a three week “test drive” of consuming plant-based foods only, no animal products, and limited intake of oils.  More information is available in his book Your Body in Balance.

LEGAL DOCUMENTS EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE  (November 2021)
Zoom presentation by Bernadette Sweeney, a Rockville-based attorney who specializes in legal concerns especially (but not only) relevant to elder law.  Ms. Sweeney opened by explaining that the focus would be on estate planning, which some may think of as applying only to the wealthy, but actually applies to everyone.  It is an umbrella term that covers two broad aspects: what happens to your property after your death, and what happens if you become incapacitated and someone else must make legal decisions for you.
