What: Experience the DMV through the extraordinary richness of a wide array of murals you never knew existed.
Which is your most/least favorite mural in Takoma Park? It's easier to have opinions when you see them regularly but when you drive by one in other parts of the DMV , the effect can be fleeting. One man on a mission to display murals to a wider audience is John Cates. He is on a daily scavenger hunt through the outdoor museum of public art in the DMV. He says." if I can't make art, I can at least find art that might otherwise have been overlooked and share it.
There's a sense of discovery.". He also gets a sense of pride when someone says "Wow! How did you find that"? or "I never knew about that place!." He laments that "people often move in narrow circles and miss so much in their environment. People outside DC often only think of the city as monuments, museums and government. That's all true but there's more - as a DC guy I like to show that there's more going on here."
Meet John, experience his extraordinary collection and share your reactions to murals that celebrate art, music, history and more. Perhaps you'll see one you have always loved, or fall in love with a new one.
