About this event

FOUR SEASONS OF CREATIVITY: SEASON THREE
CREATING A LEGACY BOX

As we age, the desire to tell our life stories grows greater and more urgent. One creative method rarely explored is what David Oldfield calls a
Legacy Box. It’s the story of a life told through objects – mementoes and keepsakes accumulated over a lifetime and saved because of their personal significance. Each object in a Legacy Box comes with a story attached: a favorite plaything from childhood, a gift from a grandparent before they passed, an honor achieved in one’s work, a postcard from a memorable vacation, a love letter from an old flame. We all have such objects lying around; a Legacy Box is a creative way to gather them together and present them as a cohesive life story.

Join us for another six-week session in our ongoing series, “Four Seasons of Creativity for Elders,” created and led by David Oldfield. You’ll be given an unfinished wooden box to personalize into your Personal Legacy Box, you’ll be led on a scavenger hunt through your home in search of keepsakes that carry special meaning for you, and you’ll spend time attaching stories and memories to these objects. And along the way you’ll be sharing these memories and their significance with others in the group.

All art materials – the wooden boxes, paints, brushes, etc. - will be provided.

David Oldfield is founder and director of The Farther On Project in Washington, D.C.  (www.fartheron.org).
David has spent the last thirty five years designing transformational experiences and toolboxes to help people through threshold times in the life cycle, like adolescence, midlife, and elderhood.
