Join us for a free screening of SELMA, a film depicting a critical period during the struggle of African-Americans for equal voting rights, including Bloody Sunday at the Edmund Pettus Bridge on March 7, 1965. The epic effort to march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, culminated in President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Timed to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the event, the film was released January 2015. Nominated for an Academy Award for best picture, and numerous other awards. Directed by Ava DuVernay, it stars David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King Jr., Tom Wilkinson as LBJ, and Oprah Winfrey as activist Annie Lee Cooper.
